Darren Sharper plays Safety for the New Orleans Saints.

“D Sharp,” as he is known around the NFL, was selected by Green Bay Packers in the second round (60th overall) of the 1997 NFL Draft. D Sharp played college football at William & Mary.

D Sharp has always been a high impact player. He made the Pro Bowl twice while playing for the Green Bay Packers, and he made the Pro Bowl twice again while playing for the Minnesota Vikings.

After signing a one year deal with the New Orleans Saints on March 18, 2009, D Sharp is once again having a Pro Bowl year and making huge contributions to the Saints’ unprecedented run during the 2009 NFL season. On October 4th, D Sharp returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown, the longest in Saints history and D Sharp’s second 95+ yard interception return for a touchdown of the season.

On October 25th, D Sharp returned his third interception for a touchdown of the season, a Saints team record. At the end of Week Eight, on Monday Night Football, D Sharp made his seventh interception of the season from the Atlanta Falcon’s Matt Ryan to keep the Saints perfect record. On November 30th, again on Monday Night Football, D Sharp intercepted a desperation pass from Tom Brady and returned it 35 yards to again keep the Saints perfect.

Many, including Mike Silver of MogoTXT and Yahoo! Sports, consider D Sharp to be a leading contender for Defensive Player Of The Year. Silver credits D Sharp for not only making huge plays and serving as an emblem of the Saints’ newfound aggressiveness on defense, but also considers D Sharp to be “the biggest difference-maker in New Orleans” this season.
