Thaddeus's Bio

Thaddeus Young is a small forward for Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA.



Thaddeus Charles Young was born on June 21, 1988 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He moved to Memphis, Tennessee with his family while in the fourth grade.



Thaddeus’s father, Thelton Young, played basketball at Jacksonville University and was drafted by the NBA’s Buffalo Braves.



Thaddeus (aka Thad-Yo or just Thad) began playing varsity basketball in eighth grade. He attended Mitchell High School where he would become one of top high school basketball players. His honors include being named to the all-state team three times, the TSSAA Class AA "Mr. Basketball" in 2005, the 2006 Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year, and to the McDonald's High School All-American Team. As a senior, Thaddeus averaged 26.9 points, 13.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 4.3 steals and 3.6 blocks per game.



Thaddeus was one of the most prized recruits of the 2006 freshman class. He went on to play college basketball for Georgia Tech where he would be the youngest member of the team's 2006 freshman class. Thaddeus helped lead Georgia Tech to a 20-12 record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament in 2007.



Thaddeus was drafted 12th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, and signed by the team on July 11, 2007. Thaddeus made his NBA debut on November 7, 2007 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.



After his rookie season, Thaddeus showed great improvement in many areas including his stats in points and rebounds. Thad is known for being a versatile forward, a reliable free-throw shooter, and for his flexibility on defense.
