Jarvis's Bio

Jarvis Green is a defensive end and currently a free agent

Jarvis Pernell Green was born January 12, 1979 in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Jarvis was a Class 3A defensive MVP during his early football career at Donaldsonville High School.

Jarvis went on to play college football at Louisiana State University, ranking fourth on the school's career-record list with 20 quarterback sacks for 123 yards. Jarvis set a freshman record at Louisiana State with eight sacks for 46 yards, starting 10 games as a defensive end. His senior year, in 2001, Jarvis was voted a second-team All-SEC selection after racking up 52 tackles and leading the team with four sacks.

Jarvis was drafted in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. During the 2003 AFC Championship against the Indianapolis Colts, Jarvis set career highs with six tackles and 2.5 sacks.

In 2004 Jarvis played in 16 games for the Patriots, starting in all three of the playoff games, including Super Bowl XXXIX. The following season New England signed Jarvis to a five-year contract extension.

Jarvis had outstanding performance in 2007; he missed time in 2008 due to an injured ankle, but still managed to play in 14 games with two sacks. Jarvis was active for 13 games for the Patriots in 2009, starting 12 and missing three in November due to knee surgery. He finished out the season successfully with a total of 36 tackles and one sack.

On March 9, 2010 Jarvis signed a 4-year, $20 million deal with the Denver Broncos. He was released September 4, 2010 and signed with the Houston Texans on December 15. Currently, Jarvis is a free agent in the NFL.

Jarvis is also an active philanthropist and started the Jarvis Green Foundation to provide support to single working mothers in low-income areas. You can learn more about Jarvis, his NFL career and his non-profit organization at http://www.jarvisgreen.com.
